About
The session, titled “European Health Data Space – How to Leverage Data from Clinical Practice,” took place on February 19 at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, attracting industry stakeholders eager to explore the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and the secondary use of health data with artificial intelligence to optimize clinical research.
During the session, Gabriel Maeztu, Co-Founder of IOMED, highlighted key aspects of the EHDS regulation and its role in shaping the future of health data in Europe. He emphasized that the EHDS aims to establish a secure and standardized framework for health data exchange across EU member states, facilitating better access and use of health data for secondary purposes. By fostering interoperability and ensuring robust data governance, the EHDS seeks to empower healthcare providers, researchers, and policymakers to enhance patient care, drive medical innovation, and advance clinical research.
The discussion also showcased how IOMED’s technology aligns with the EHDS objectives, contributing to the development of the European Health Data Space by activating health data for secondary use. Through its Data Space Platform, IOMED standardizes health data using the OMOP Common Data Model. Additionally, as a Data Space Mediator, IOMED enables the secure exchange of health data between data holders and data users, fostering collaboration between data holders and data users while ensuring compliance with GDPR and EHDS regulations.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session and networking opportunity, where representatives from Alexion, Hospital Vall d'Hebron, Hospital Parc Taulí, and the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute shared their insights, raised questions about the EHDS, and discussed their perspectives on the future of health data in Europe.
